John Major Jenkins is an independent researcher who has devoted himself to reconstructing ancient Mayan cosmology and philosophy. Since 1986, John has traveled to Mexico and Central America seven times. In 1990 he helped build a school in San Pedro, near Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In 1994 he delivered relief supplies to a Quiché Maya community in the Western highlands of Guatemala. Since beginning his odyssey of research and discovery with the Maya, John has authored dozens of articles and many books, including:

Mayan Mysteries – The 13 Maya Tribes of Tikal – The Black Jaguar is Back!
In this, our first upload in a year, a NEW segment in “Mayan Mysteries”, where we see that The Black Jaguar is back! We will have a lot of great footage, both on Mayan’s and nature in Guatemala and learn what December 21, 2012 is really all about. Plus, some interesting exclusive mysteries we will highlight later.
First though today, Mayan spiritual guide, The Black Jaguar, introduces us to the 12 tribes of Tikal. And the emblem or logo of Tikal, which some people think Tikal used to be named, “Mutul.” Well, actually it is the 13 tribes of Maya Tikal – the 13th being humanity itself, as the Black Jaguar explains to the us in this video.
Also interesting, for the number thirteen in Maya means unification and of course there are 13 new moons in a natural calendar year, even in our ‘own’ Gregorian calendar of 12 months, there are 13 moons – go figure! This is why the basic element of the Mayan calendar has 13 cycles or months as we may call them, each made up of 20 days. More on that later.
