What effects will the 2012 prophecy have on the economy then?

Even if the 2012 prophecies aren’t true, is it possible that there might be widespread fear among the public to crash the economy (bank runs, stock market plunge), therefore realizing a financial doomsday?

A lot of people thought the world was going to end on Y2K, but I don’t recall a financial meltdown happening then. Lots of very smart people have given a lot of very good reasons as to why the 2012 prophecy won’t happen.

In spite of all that, there are millions of gullible people in this country who believe every doomsday movie that comes along. They haven’t actually researched the issue; they just know that the super-smart ancient Mayans had a calendar that ends on 12/21/2012 according to some interpretations. I’m betting that in the several months leading up to that date, there will be a lot of scientists on TV providing evidence against the prophecy. Hopefully that will discourage any financial panicking.

probably not a big one because 2012 is only a year, so even if the majoirty of the public believed it to happen the most amount of days the economy would collapse would be 365 days, you know what i mean?

"2012 prophecy" is viral advertizing for a movie.

Once the movie comes out, the hype will die down

well you just have to look at the proof. if you have solid proof that something on a given date the Mayans predicted happened, then it might be true. But remember; whatever happens if we all die for example, time will still continue and maybe we will see the next day after December 22—>once the clock strikes 12:00

Precisely. That’s why I’m planning on cornering the market by producing spears en masse, for when we all have to start hunting for our own food again.

    Probably not that bad.
Y2K was scientifically and financially much more likely than the 2012 trash, and while there was some economic issues in 1999 it wasn’t a financial doomsday and 2012 won’t be either.
